Our Indigenous Rounds

Our Indigenous Rounds

SMOSH West Lakes Indigenous Round 2019
Beginning on Saturday 22 June, with the Women’s teams at home, and continuing through to the weekend of the 28, 29 and 30 June, with Junior home games and Senior Men’s home games, we are
planning a variety of experiences for players and families across this time to lead into NAIDOC week. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander peoples across Australia. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Our Footy community is looking forward to celebrating our
Indigenous players at the club and also engaging in various cultural events across the week.
We are inviting all players to enter a colouring competition by downloading a Guernsey poster (see below) and creating an indigenous themed design. You can be creative as you like. Once coloured in, add your name and age and a short description of your design or what inspired you and bring your poster to the club and we will display it during our indigenous rounds. We will vote on the best deign and give a prize to the child who creates it, which will be a signed book by Crows AFL star Eddie Betts titled ‘My People’.
We will also specially invite any of our Indigenous players / families (Juniors, Women and Men) to design a guernsey for the club to be used for next year’s Indigenous round, with the winning design to be worn by our Senior Men and Women’s teams in 2020.  You can use the club colours if you like but keep the Lion in the design. If you would like to be involved in this special invite, please contact the club.
We looking forward to seeing what you all come up with.
Photos of your design can be sent to communications@smoshjfc.com.au to feature in future newsletters. Otherwise, give your finished poster to Sam behind the bar who will display in the club.
